AI ‌to Independently Develop Video Games Within ⁣Three Years, elon Musk Predicts

PALO ALTO, CA – November 12, 2025 – Elon Musk stated⁢ on the Rushmore on X podcast that artificial intelligence will reach the capability of ⁢independently⁣ creating ‍complete video games within three years.‍ The technology, he explained, will move beyond being⁣ a support tool and assume full responsibility ⁢for game design, programming,‍ and production.

While forecasting this leap in AI capability, Musk tempered expectations, ⁢predicting the first fully AI-generated video game won’t likely appear until 2029, citing the ‍inherent complexity of interactive entertainment. ⁤ “The technology ‍will‍ no longer be a support‍ tool and will assume ⁣the design, programming and production of a title from start to finish,” Musk said.

The discussion also included Bobby Kotick, former CEO of Activision Blizzard, who lauded Musk ⁢as “the best candidate to ⁤run a ⁢video⁢ game company.”

Musk revealed his personal “Mount Rushmore” of influential video games, naming Quake, Half-Life 2, BioShock, and‌ Deus Ex. Notably absent from his list⁢ were more recent ⁣titles like⁤ Diablo IV, despite ⁤previous praise from Musk.

Musk’s prediction arrives as the gaming industry increasingly⁣ experiments with AI for specific tasks, such as generating dialogue and synthetic voices. Though, complete,⁣ autonomous game creation‌ by⁣ AI remains uncommon. Musk envisions a future where ⁢AI fundamentally⁢ alters game growth, potentially redefining – and even replacing – the⁣ role of human developers.
