Aggies Record Pair of Top-15 Finishes at Arturo Barrios Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The New Mexico State Aggies cross country team delivered strong performances at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday, October 14, 2023, securing a pair of top-15 team finishes. The women’s team placed 11th while the men’s team finished 14th.
The Arturo Barrios Invitational,held at the University of Arkansas’s cross country course,attracts a highly competitive field from across the nation. These results signal continued progress for the Aggies programme under Head Coach Doug Martinez, as they build toward the Western Athletic Conference Championships on November 4th in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
On the women’s side, freshman Emma Wilson led the way, completing the 5K course in 17:48.8, good for 38th place individually. Teammates Olivia Hatcher (18:02.8) and Madi Vasquez (18:13.4) also contributed to the scoring, finishing 54th and 62nd respectively. The women’s team totaled 338 points.
For the men, sophomore Isaiah Joseph paced the Aggies with a time of 24:27.4 in the 8K race, finishing 48th. Teammates darius Baca (24:48.8) and jose Gonzalez (25:01.1) rounded out the scoring, placing 68th and 81st. The men’s team accumulated 428 points.
