Affordable Dental Care Now Available at Northeast Iowa Community College
Peosta, Iowa – Residents of Northeast Iowa now have access to significantly reduced-cost dental care thanks to a new clinic launched by Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC). The clinic, designed to address a critical need in the community, offers a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleanings, and fillings at affordable rates.
The initiative comes at a time when many are delaying essential dental care. According to recent health studies, approximately one in four adults between the ages of 35 and 44 currently live with untreated dental cavities.
“access to affordable dental services is a major barrier for many,” explains Jennifer Kohlmeyer, NICC’s dental assisting clinic coordinator and faculty member.”putting off dental care can lead to more serious – and costly – problems down the road, potentially even requiring emergency treatment.”
Beyond the immediate discomfort, delaying oral health can have broader implications for overall well-being. Health officials emphasize the link between oral health and systemic conditions, noting that proactive dental care can definitely help reduce the risk of heart disease, respiratory infections, and complications stemming from diabetes.
NICC’s clinic aims to remove those barriers, offering a judgment-free environment for individuals without dental insurance or those who haven’t visited a dentist in some time. “We want people to know it’s okay to seek care, no matter how long it’s been,” Kohlmeyer states. “We provide a learning-centered clinic focused on gentle care and understanding.”
The clinic is open for appointments on Fridays from 8:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.between January and March. To learn more or schedule an appointment, contact Jennifer Kohlmeyer at 563-275-2279.
