The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Conference Officer, a key role in the organization and execution of its annual international Digital Humanities conference. The call for applicants, announced on March 3, 2026, initiates a three-year term beginning immediately after the conclusion of the DH2026 conference in Daejeon, South Korea, this July.
The Deputy Conference Officer will work in collaboration with the Conference Officer, sharing responsibility for developing, maintaining, and improving the ADHO Conference Protocol and accompanying guidelines. This includes coordinating all aspects of the annual conference, a significant event for the global digital humanities community, typically attracting between 500 and 1000 attendees, according to ADHO documentation.
The position demands extensive communication with ADHO Boards, Local Organizers, Program Chairs, and various disciplinary communities within the digital humanities field. ADHO emphasizes that prior experience in conference organization, particularly with the administration of the Conftool platform, and active involvement in digital humanities associations are highly desirable qualifications.
Core responsibilities of the Deputy Conference Officer include ensuring adherence to the Conference Protocols by Local Organizers and the Program Committee; managing the call for bids for future conference locations, providing detailed guidance to potential hosts, and making recommendations to the Constituent Organisations Board (COB) and Executive Board (EB); and drafting and administering the Memorandum of Understanding between ADHO and the selected Local Organizers.
The role also encompasses assisting Local Organizers with the configuration and administration of the Conftool platform, maintaining the annual list of conference reviewers, and overseeing the development of the draft call for proposals. Further duties include reviewing requests for language additions and submission format innovations, advising Program Committee chairs and Local Organizers, evaluating sponsorship requests, and compiling conference reports. A post-conference survey of participants will also fall under the Deputy Conference Officer’s purview.
ADHO’s annual conference schedule is currently set through 2028, with DH2026 in Daejeon, South Korea (July 27 – August 1, 2026), DH2027 at the University of Galway, Ireland (June 28 – July 3, 2027), and DH2028 in Cape Town, South Africa (July 4-7, 2028) hosted by the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR). The Deputy Conference Officer selected will be responsible for initiating the call for bids for the 2029 conference.
Interested candidates are requested to submit an application form and a two-page curriculum vitae by May 1, 2026. Inquiries regarding the position should be directed to the ADHO Secretary at secretary@adho.org.
