ADAC expects heavy traffic jams for the weekend

08. July 2021 – Stefan Angele

The hot phase of the summer travel season begins, the A1 and A7 holiday highways should be really full at the weekend on Friday (July 9th) and Saturday (July 10th). Then there is the start of the holiday in the north of the Netherlands and in France. According to the ADAC, they are especially popular with holidaymakers German coastal regions and the Alps. Home and camping holidays lare trendy, not least because of the corona pandemic, they say Traffic experts. Therefore, above all, the access roads to the The North and Baltic Seas as well as in the direction of the mountains and lakes are at risk of congestion.

Saturday will be the busiest day

At the start of the second week of the school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, especially when changing beds on Saturday (July 10th), a large crowd towards the coast can be expected, said a spokeswoman for the ADAC. Bottlenecks are to be expected, especially on the A1 with several construction sites between Osnabrück and Bremen. There are also neuralgic points on the A7 with construction sites in the south of the country and near Bispingen. Because some vacationers are already returning home, it could also in the respective opposite directions to traffic jams and stuttering Traffic coming, warned the ADAC. Weekend peak hours: Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and early afternoon and the Sunday afternoon.

Hamburger Nerv construction site only makes things worse

The construction work on the A255 in front of the Hamburg Elbe bridges should also lead to longer traffic jams in the south of the Hanseatic city. The A1 (Bremen – Lübeck) heading north is particularly affected. Autobahn GmbH Nord expects significant traffic obstructions for commuters from the south and east of Hamburg and Lower Saxony until the renovation is completed in September. The work is heavily dependent on the weather. The diversions lead over the A1 or the Freihafenelbbrücke.

The construction site on the A2 is also causing problems

A construction site will be set up from July 16 to 18 on Autobahn 2 near Hanover in the direction of Dortmund. The closure from Friday to Sunday evening saves motorists a construction site lasting several weeks, which would significantly restrict rush hour traffic. It’s also getting tight here (both directions):

– trunk roads to the North and Baltic Seas
– Kölner Ring A 1/A 3 /A 4
– A 1 Cologne – Dortmund – Bremen – Lübeck
– A 2 Dortmund – Hannover
– A 3 Cologne – Frankfurt – Nuremberg – Passau
– A 5 Karlsruhe – Basel
– A 7 Hamburg – Flensburg

Go against the current

The ADAC advises countercyclical driving, for example on Saturday afternoons rather than in the morning. Good preparation helps to find the alternative routes quickly in the event of possible closures. And very important: take enough drinks with you and take breaks.
