Vivian Sung and Austin Lin Brace for Impact in New Disaster Thriller ’96 Minutes’
Singaporean actors Vivian Sung and Austin Lin are trading romantic comedies for high-stakes action in the upcoming disaster film 96 Minutes, set to open in Singapore cinemas on Sept 25.The pair, known for their on-screen chemistry in lighter fare, take on a more serious tone as thay navigate a crisis situation demanding both physical and emotional resilience.
The film marks a departure for both actors, challenging them to explore new dramatic territory. Sung, who prepared for her role by interviewing female police officers, discovered a nuanced reality beyond the typical action hero archetype. “Contrary to how movie action heroes always seem so brave and righteous, I realised many of these women also have their tender side,” she said. The role allowed Sung to portray a character with depth, incorporating “less serious aspects” to make her “seem more human,” reflecting the officers’ own experiences of balancing strength with vulnerability in their personal lives – “They would say that in front of their husbands, they are still ’little women’ and might behave in a flighty manner.”
96 Minutes promises a gripping narrative built on a relationship that has matured beyond initial attraction. According to promotional materials, the film depicts a bond “that has weathered ups and downs together…powerful, and exceeds the fiery, exciting early stages of attraction.”
