The Premiere Cinema 14 at Orlando’s Fashion Square Mall will close on March 12, marking the end of a 22-year run for the movie theater. The closure was announced by Premiere Cinema 14 via a social media post, attributing the decision to the mall’s planned redevelopment.
The theater’s final day of operation will conclude a long tenure at the mall, which opened in July 1973 and once boasted over 30 retailers. In recent years, Orlando Fashion Square has faced increasing vacancy and competition from newer shopping destinations like the Mall at Millenia and the Orlando International Premium Outlets, according to reports.
“We will miss the laughs, screams and tears we have shared over the last 22 years!” Premiere Cinema 14 stated in its social media announcement. The theater encouraged customers to redeem gift cards at the Orlando location before March 12, or at the nearest alternative Premiere Cinemas location in Plant City, Florida.
The closing of Premiere Cinema 14 leaves Macy’s, Dillard’s Outlet, and Planet Fitness as remaining anchor tenants at the mall. Brokers have presented a redevelopment plan to transform the site into a mixed-use town center featuring housing, hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces, though the timeline and approval process remain uncertain.
The mall was listed for sale in October 2024, signaling the anticipated changes. Redevelopment plans have been proposed previously, but none have yet moved forward, leaving the future of the property in flux.
