Barcelona – Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 opened its doors today, showcasing a range of innovative devices and concepts, from fully electric hypercars designed for video games to modular smartphones and consumer humanoid robots. The annual event, running through March 5th, has already seen major announcements from companies including Xiaomi, Honor and Lenovo.
Xiaomi unveiled its Vision GT, a hypercar initially designed as a digital asset for the PlayStation 5 racing game Gran Turismo. The company went on to construct a physical model, displaying it prominently at MWC 2026. Xiaomi described the vehicle as “sculpted by wind,” emphasizing its aerodynamic design with sweeping lines and extensive airflow inlets. While no plans for production have been announced, the Vision GT’s presence signals Xiaomi’s growing interest in the electric vehicle market.
Tecno presented a modular smartphone concept, featuring electric contact pins on the back of the device that allow users to attach various accessories. A key module showcased was a camera unit, equipped with a larger image sensor and zoom lens, effectively transforming the phone into a dedicated camera with the phone’s display serving as a viewfinder. The potential image quality improvements remain to be seen pending further development and production.
Honor expanded on its robotics ambitions, unveiling both a “Robot Phone” and a full-sized humanoid robot. The Robot Phone, initially previewed at CES in Las Vegas, integrates a gimbal-stabilized camera that folds out from within the device. Honor developed miniature motors, leveraging technology from its folding phone hinges, to power the camera’s stabilization. During a demonstration, the camera’s built-in AI reportedly complimented CNET’s Katie Collins on her “soft and shiny hair.” Honor intends to bring the Robot Phone to market in the second half of 2026.
The company’s humanoid robot took center stage during Honor’s press conference, demonstrating its mobility with dancing, moonwalking, and backflips. Honor is positioning the robot for consumer applications, envisioning its utilize in workplaces, as a home companion, and for shopping assistance.
Lenovo showcased the Yoga Book 3D concept laptop, featuring a display capable of rendering images in three dimensions without the need for special glasses. The device utilizes artificial intelligence to transform 2D drawings into 3D renderings. CNET’s Tyler Graham noted that the 3D effect was less impressive when viewed from off-center, potentially causing eye strain.
Motorola also contributed to the concept device showcase, though details were limited. The company shared further information about its Razr Fold, a book-style foldable phone featuring a 6,000-mAh battery, but did not disclose pricing or release dates.
Apple, while not exhibiting at MWC 2026, is scheduled to launch the iPhone 17E and a latest iPad Air on the first official day of the congress, with the possibility of further announcements planned for a dedicated Apple Experience event on March 4th.
