Korean Brand Launches Powerful 16-inch Laptop for $400

South Korean tech firm Basics has launched its new 16-inch high-performance laptop, the ‘BasicBook16 Pro,’ expanding its product line and signaling a shift towards a performance-focused strategy, according to a press release issued February 24th.

Basics, currently the nation’s third-largest laptop brand, has previously focused on affordable, user-centric products. The BasicBook16 Pro represents a move to cater to users requiring more processing power for tasks like video editing, large data analysis, and high-resolution content consumption. The company aims to offer a competitive alternative to higher-end laptops, according to the release.

The BasicBook16 Pro features a 16-inch display and is optimized for multitasking. A key upgrade from previous models is the inclusion of 16GB of RAM as a standard configuration, a feature previously offered as an optional upgrade. This increased memory is intended to improve performance and responsiveness when running multiple applications simultaneously. The laptop also incorporates an enhanced thermal management system designed to maintain stable operation during extended use.

Basics has seen success with its earlier 16-inch model, the BasicBook 16, which gained popularity for its value proposition, including a pre-installed Windows operating system. Recent promotions, including a special offer through the Chosun Membership program, have highlighted the affordability of the BasicBook 16, with prices around 500,000 to 510,000 Korean Won (approximately $375 – $385 USD as of March 2, 2026). The company’s strategy has been to provide a complete package, minimizing concerns about operating system costs and compatibility.

The launch of the Pro model indicates a broadening of Basics’ ambitions. The company intends to compete not only on price but also on performance and build quality. The design of the BasicBook16 Pro has been refined to present a more polished aesthetic, according to the company.
