BBVA in ChatGPT: Check Accounts & Products in Italy & Germany | AI Banking

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

BBVA has launched a conversational application within ChatGPT, allowing customers in Italy and Germany to access banking information directly through the AI assistant. The integration, announced Tuesday, marks one of the first instances of a major financial institution offering its services natively within OpenAI’s widely used platform.

The BBVA app, currently available in Italian and German, enables ChatGPT users to inquire about account conditions, card options, and savings products offered by the bank’s digital branches in the two European countries. Users can access the app through a dedicated link or by searching for “BBVA” within the ChatGPT app interface, according to a statement from the bank.

“Being available directly in ChatGPT means moving towards a more natural, accessible, and seamlessly integrated form of banking in people’s everyday lives,” said Murat Kalkan, Global Head of Digital Banks at BBVA. The launch builds on a strategic collaboration between BBVA and OpenAI, aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

The initial version of the app focuses on providing informational responses to customer queries. Users can interact with the BBVA app within ChatGPT by mentioning “@BBVA App” followed by their question, or by selecting the app from the chat input menu. The app then provides a personalized response, along with options to explore other products and related questions from other customers.

BBVA first demonstrated a concept for the ChatGPT-integrated app in December 2025, according to a company release. The bank anticipates the application will evolve into a more comprehensive digital companion, offering personalized financial guidance and support. This development follows BBVA’s earlier exploration of conversational AI, with a demonstration of the concept taking place during an event in Milan marking the fourth anniversary of BBVA Italy.

The move positions BBVA at the forefront of integrating digital banking with conversational AI, according to the bank. BBVA expects this experience to evolve progressively into a digital companion that helps people make better financial decisions through a conversational, simple, and personalized interaction.
