PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team is set to host two matches this weekend at the Hecht Tennis Center, facing Delaware on Friday at 12:30 p.m. And Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The Quakers are coming off a strong showing at the ECAC Championships, where they reached the finals after victories over Dartmouth and Columbia, before ultimately falling to Yale.
Penn’s ECAC Championship run saw closely contested matches. Against Dartmouth, the Quakers secured a 4-3 win despite losing two of three doubles matches, relying on four victories in six singles matches. The Columbia match followed a similar pattern, with Penn again winning 4-3 after claiming four of six singles contests. Yale proved to be a tougher opponent, winning all three doubles matches and three singles matches for a decisive 4-0 victory.
Lara Stojanovski emerged as a standout performer during the ECAC Championships, maintaining an undefeated record throughout the tournament. She secured Penn’s only doubles win of the tournament alongside teammate Varsha Vedula and also won her singles matches against both Dartmouth and Columbia.
Freshman Varsha Vedula also made significant contributions to the team’s success. She clinched match-winning singles victories against both Dartmouth and Columbia, propelling the Quakers to the championship final against Yale.
Fairleigh Dickinson University, one of Penn’s weekend opponents, operates four campuses – in Florham and Metropolitan, New Jersey, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Wroxton, England – in addition to offering online programs, according to the university’s website. The Metropolitan Campus is located in Teaneck, New Jersey, and is described as a fast-paced, professionally oriented environment near New York City. The university was founded in 1942.
