Remscheid, Germany and London – Volla Systeme GmbH, in collaboration with French firm Murena, has launched a latest version of the Volla Tablet pre-installed with /e/OS, a privacy-focused, Google-free operating system. The tablet aims to provide a secure, open-source alternative to mainstream mobile operating systems and cloud services.
The /e/OS operating system is an Android derivative specifically designed with user privacy as a central tenet. Murena similarly offers a cloud solution intended to compete with those of Google and Apple, providing users with an alternative ecosystem for data storage and services.
Jörg Wurzer, founder of Volla, described the partnership with Murena as a natural progression, expanding user choice beyond Volla’s own OS and Ubuntu Touch. He stated the intention is to appeal to users prioritizing data protection and independence from major technology companies.
The Volla Tablet retains its existing technical specifications, featuring a 12.6-inch display and powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. Internal storage is 512GB, expandable up to 1TB via microSD card. The device is priced at approximately 700 Euros.
The companies see particular potential for the Volla Tablet in France, where demand for European alternatives to American tech giants is increasing. The tablet’s design is intended to be visually similar to iOS devices, potentially easing the transition for users migrating from Apple products. Optional accessories, including a keyboard and stylus, are available to enhance productivity.
The launch of the Volla Tablet with /e/OS represents a step towards greater data privacy and independence within the European technology market. It remains to be seen how consumer demand will develop and whether other manufacturers will adopt a similar approach.
