The University of Nebraska women’s gymnastics team defeated Illinois 195.750-194.000 on Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. The victory improves the Huskers’ record to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten Conference competition, while Illinois falls to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
A pair of gymnasts, Nebraska’s Lauren Homecillo and Whitney Jencks, shared the floor exercise title with a score of 9.875. Jencks also secured second place in the all-around competition, posting a total score of 39.300. Isabel Sikon finished third in the all-around with a score of 38.225.
Nebraska began the meet on vault, achieving a team score of 49.025. Reese Baechle led the Huskers with a 9.850, tying her season-best performance. Molly Peterson, Tegan Shaver and Sikon each contributed scores of 9.800. Whitney Jencks recorded a 9.775, matching her career high.
The Huskers continued to bars, where they earned a 49.125. Nya Kraus and Jencks both posted scores of 9.900. Peterson added a 9.850, while Sikon and Olivia Burns scored 9.750, and 9.725, respectively. Jencks’ score tied another career mark.
On beam, Nebraska recorded a 48.775. Kraus led the team with a 9.800, followed by Homecillo (9.775) and Jencks (9.750). Burns and Allie Gard both contributed scores of 9.725.
Nebraska concluded the competition on floor exercise, posting a team score of 48.800. Homecillo and Jencks each earned a 9.875. Kraus and Gard both scored 9.700, while Sikon finished with a 9.650. Jencks’ performance marked a season high.
The Huskers will next travel to College Park, Maryland, on Friday, February 20, to compete against the University of Maryland. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Central Time and will be streamed on B1G+.
