LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 18 Kentucky overpowered No. 14 Ole Miss 74-57 on Sunday at Historic Memorial Coliseum, fueled by a dominant 19-0 run in the second quarter. The victory marked the 20th win of the season for the Wildcats and their seventh in Southeastern Conference play.
Clara Strack led all scorers with 28 points and nine rebounds, showcasing her dominance throughout the contest. Asia Boone contributed 15 points, while Tonie Morgan orchestrated the offense with 14 points and nine assists.
Kentucky’s defense proved pivotal, generating 22 points off of 14 Ole Miss turnovers. Conversely, the Rebels were limited to just eight points from 14 Kentucky miscues, highlighting the Wildcats’ ability to capitalize on opponent errors.
The game began with Ole Miss scoring the first points, but Kentucky quickly responded. Strack tied the game with two free throws, then scored again to give the Wildcats their first lead at 4-2. A subsequent layup by Morgan and a jumper from Strack extended the lead to four, though Ole Miss countered with a three-pointer. Strack continued her strong start with additional points and a three-pointer from Boone helped Kentucky close the first quarter with a 17-11 advantage.
The second quarter saw Kentucky seize control. Following a Rebel basket, Amelia Hassett connected on a three-pointer, and Boone followed with a four-point play after being fouled while shooting from beyond the arc. Jordan Obi scored on a pass from Morgan, prompting an Ole Miss timeout. Strack continued to score, and consecutive three-pointers from Boone and Hassett ignited the decisive 19-0 run, pushing Kentucky to a commanding 39-15 lead. Ole Miss managed to score the final five points of the half, but Kentucky entered the break with a 39-20 lead, Boone having scored 13 points in the first half.
Ole Miss attempted to mount a comeback in the third quarter, scoring the first five points before Strack responded for Kentucky. The Rebels continued to chip away, but Strack answered with free throws, maintaining a 43-29 lead for the Wildcats. Morgan and Hassett added to the Kentucky offense, extending the lead to 52-34. A three-point play by Morgan further solidified Kentucky’s advantage, and the Wildcats ended the third quarter leading 55-42.
Early in the fourth quarter, Teonni Key scored her first basket, but Ole Miss responded with a 9-0 run, narrowing the gap to 57-51. Strack halted the run with a basket and then scored six consecutive points, restoring a comfortable 65-51 lead for Kentucky. A basket by Morgan extended the lead to 16 as part of a 10-0 run. Kentucky ultimately secured a 74-57 victory.
Kentucky will return to action on Sunday, February 23, visiting Vanderbilt in Nashville. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
