PT PLN (Persero) has completed construction of a 150 kV Gardu Induk (GI) to supply power to Microsoft’s data center in the Greenland International Industrial Centre (GIIC), Kota Deltamas, Cikarang, West Java, the company announced Friday.
The completion of the project, designated KTT Data Center Bay Microsoft JKT 11 A & B, signifies the energization process has been successfully completed, adhering to all technical standards. PLN officials stated the project demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting investment growth and the development of digital infrastructure in Indonesia.
According to Widya Anggoro Putro, General Manager of PLN Unit Induk Pembangunan Jawa Bagian Tengah (UIP JBT), the project’s completion is strategically important for bolstering investor confidence in Indonesia, particularly given the presence of international companies like Microsoft in the GIIC Cikarang area. “We are grateful this project has been completed and is now operational. We appreciate the solid collaboration between PLN and Microsoft in presenting a world-class digital infrastructure,” Putro said.
The demand for data centers is increasing alongside rapid technological advancements, requiring a reliable, stable, and continuous power supply for optimal operation. PLN is also accelerating the completion of the Deltamas Substation project, targeting completion by July 2025, with a capacity of 1,000 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA). This project is intended to support electricity supply to Karawang, Bekasi, Cikarang, and Purwakarta, and to facilitate connections for high-voltage industrial customers.
PLN officials have emphasized the importance of reliable electricity availability as a foundation for achieving the national economic growth target of 8 percent, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto. The Gardu Induk Deltamas is also intended to support the growth of the data center industry, with investments from companies like Microsoft and Amazon.
PLN is also collaborating with Microsoft to prepare 200 MW of solar energy to support the operation of data centers in Indonesia.
