Funkita Birdie Wordie Sports Top – Chlorine Resistant & Sustainable

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Funkita, an Australian swimwear brand, is marketing its “Birdie Wordie” line of women’s one-piece swimsuits as both high-performance athletic wear and an environmentally conscious product. The suits, available in UK sizes 6 to 12, are constructed from ECO C-INFINITY fabric, a polyester created from recycled plastic bottles.

The Birdie Wordie design features wide, comfortable straps and a smooth neckline intended to provide a streamlined fit for swimming, according to product descriptions. The suits offer minimal back coverage with cutouts extending around the sides, creating an open-back feel. They are designed with a higher leg and slimmer cut than some other Funkita styles, while still providing adequate coverage during activity.

ECO C-INFINITY, exclusive to Funkita and sister brand Funky Trunks, is noted for its 100% chlorine resistance and ability to retain color, even with frequent use. The fabric’s durability extends beyond typical elastane swimwear materials, according to the company. The use of recycled plastic bottles in the fabric’s production aims to reduce environmental impact.

The Birdie Wordie one-piece is currently available for purchase at a reduced price of $31.05, down from $62.09, according to one retailer. Shipping costs for international orders, such as to Australia, are approximately AU $26.00 and may be subject to customs processing and additional charges.

Funkita’s ECO C-INFINITY fabric provides UV protection of 50+, and the suits are machine washable at 40°C with mild detergent. Bleaching, ironing, and machine drying are not recommended.
