Pop star Dua Lipa and her fiancé, Callum Turner, experienced a disruptive encounter with paparazzi in Paris this week, with video footage surfacing online showing the couple pleading for space and privacy during what was intended to be a private evening.
The incident unfolded outside a restaurant, where Turner initially confronted someone he believed was a photographer, stating their behavior was “not okay,” according to videos circulating on social media. While the individual claimed to be waiting for Canadian singer Tate McRae, attention quickly shifted to Lipa as she exited the establishment.
As paparazzi began photographing Lipa, she immediately covered her face and, linking arms with Turner, attempted to walk away. Photographers continued to follow the couple, prompting Lipa to stop and request they cease filming. “No, no, no, we’re not doing this,” she said, while Turner pleaded, “Stop.”
A photographer responded by offering to take a single photograph in exchange for being left alone, a proposition repeated several times. Lipa firmly declined, asking not to be followed. Despite her requests, the photographers persisted, with one shouting, “Show your face!”
The couple then turned and walked in the opposite direction, but the pursuit continued, with photographers running ahead to capture images of Lipa. She repeatedly pleaded, “Can you please proceed away,” while a photographer countered, “Give us some pictures, Dua.” Lipa nearly collided with a pole while attempting to evade the cameras, and a valet reportedly used a hat to shield her from the flashing lights.
The incident sparked widespread criticism online, with many users condemning the paparazzi’s aggressive behavior. One user on X (formerly Twitter) described the situation as “shameful,” noting that both Lipa and Turner repeatedly asked the photographers to stop, yet they continued to yell and pursue them. Another user called the photographers’ offer of “one minute” in exchange for photos “a terrifying sentence.”
Several social media posts highlighted the rarity of seeing Lipa visibly upset by the attention. One viral tweet, with over 40,000 likes, stated that the singer had never been seen “this angry before,” suggesting the paparazzi had been following them for an extended period. Others echoed this sentiment, claiming it was the first time in her “11+ years in the public eye” they had witnessed Lipa express such frustration.
The incident also prompted reflection on the pressures faced by celebrities. One user commented that fame “looks unbearable,” while another emphasized the need for celebrities to have “peace and privacy,” stating that constant intrusion could be “incredibly exhausting.” A further post asserted that the behavior witnessed was “harassment with cameras,” questioning when it would stop being considered “part of the job.”
