Julio Iglesias Denies Sexual Assault Allegations

Iglesias’ Response and the Allegations
The Grammy-winning artist, and father of Enrique iglesias, issued a statement on Thursday via Instagram denying the allegations as “absolutely false.” Translated from Spanish, his statement reads, “I deny having abused, coerced or disrespected any woman.” He expressed deep sadness over the accusations,stating,“These accusations are absolutely false and cause me great sadness.”
The allegations were initially published by Spanish online paper elDiario.es and Spanish-language television channel univision Noticias in a collaborative investigation detailing the accounts of two women who were employed as live-in staff at Iglesias’ Caribbean residences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Legal Proceedings and Representation
Prosecutors in Spain have acknowledged they are reviewing the allegations. A formal complaint was filed on January 5th, and Spanish courts have the jurisdiction to investigate crimes committed by Spanish citizens abroad. This means Iglesias could potentially be summoned to appear before a Madrid-based court according to reports.
The accusers are being represented by the nongovernmental organization Women’s Link worldwide, which alleges Iglesias committed “crimes against sexual freedom and indemnity such as sexual harassment” and “human trafficking for the purpose of forced labor and servitude.”
