Göteborg Shaken by Overnight Explosion; Stockholm Man Seriously Injured in Stabbing; Russia Warns of “Inevitable” War with Europe
Göteborg residents reported a meaningful explosion in the Johanneberg district late Friday night. Emergency services responded to reports of damage to a door and window, but confirmed no injuries occurred. One resident described the blast to Göteborgs-Posten as “a bang like no other. The whole house shook.”
In Stockholm, a young man is hospitalized with serious injuries following a violent attack in Gröndal. Police report the incident involved a stabbing or cutting weapon and have arrested a person in thier 20s on suspicion of attempted murder. Images from the scene show officers securing a large knife or machete.
Simultaneously occurring, escalating tensions between Russia and Europe continue to mount. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that a war with Europe is “inevitable,” asserting that Russia has been designated a long-term threat. This statement follows similar rhetoric from President Putin,who recently declared russia “is ready” for war should Europe choose to engage.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte responded by emphasizing the alliance’s “unwavering vigilance” in the face of Russia’s “increasingly reckless behavior.” Rutte urged member states to increase defense spending to at least five percent of GDP.
