Disturbing Allegations of Child Re-Education

A network of 165 camps is allegedly being utilized by Russia in an effort to re-educate Ukrainian children. Thes camps are located not only in occupied Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia itself, but also, shockingly, in North Korea, according to recent testimony.

Ukrainian Children Reportedly Sent to Songdowon Camp

Testimony presented to the US Senate on Wednesday by a spokesperson for the Regional Center for Human Rights (RCHR), as cited by Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, reveals that at least some Ukrainian children have been sent to the Songdowon summer camp on North Korea’s east coast.

Within this camp, reports suggest children were subjected to instruction focused on “destroying the Japanese military.” Furthermore, they reportedly interacted wiht Korean veterans implicated in the 1968 hijacking of a US spy ship, the USS Pueblo.

Nearly 20,000 Children Affected

Kyiv estimates that almost 20,000 Ukrainian children have been abducted or forcibly removed from Ukraine since the commencement of the full-scale war in 2022. This represents a notable humanitarian crisis and a potential war crime.

International Criminal Court Inquiry

The gravity of these allegations has prompted international legal action. In 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his commissioner for children’s rights, Maria lvova-Belova, on charges related to the deportation and unlawful transfer of children to Russian-controlled territory.
