Nationwide Cheese Recall Issued Due to Listeria Concerns
WASHINGTON – A widespread recall of shredded and grated cheeses is underway across the United States due to potential Listeria contamination, the Food and Drug Management (FDA) announced today. The recall, initiated by Ambriola Company, impacts products processed at a single facility and distributed nationwide between november 3 and November 20. While no illnesses have been reported to date, the company is taking a precautionary measure.
The recall affects cheeses sold under the brand names Ambriola, Locatelli, Pinna, Boar’s head, and Member’s mark, available in plastic containers and one-pound plastic bags with expiration dates ranging from February to May 2026.The FDA advises consumers to discard any possibly affected cheese or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Listeria infections, while rare, can be particularly hazardous for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
Ambriola CEO Phil Marfuggi stated, “We take food safety very seriously and instantly alerted stores and distributors to remove the affected products from shelves. We are working closely with the FDA and continuing to test our products and facilities to fully understand the situation.”
Retailers including Walmart and Sam’s Club are impacted, with affected products sold in Walmart locations across 14 states and Sam’s Club locations in 27 states. Wegmans has also issued a separate recall of Locatelli-brand Pecorino Romano cheese sold in stores across ten states and Washington,D.C., between November 14 and November 24.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection typically begin within two weeks of consuming contaminated food and can include fever, headache, stiff neck, and muscle aches. The FDA urges anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention. Ambriola has suspended production and distribution of the affected products while conducting a thorough review of its sanitation and food safety protocols.
