Ukraine Battles On Amidst New Billion-Euro Arms Pledge as Clashes Intensify

Brussels – November 20, 2025 – As fighting rages across Ukraine, with the Ukrainian army reporting 200 clashes in the last twenty-four hours, several NATO nations announced over 1 billion euros in new military aid Wednesday, bolstering support for Kyiv while concurrently urging Russia to engage in serious peace negotiations.

The commitment, spearheaded by Norway, Poland, and Germany, will see the acquisition of American-made weaponry through the PURL program – a European-funded initiative already totaling four billion euros aimed at equipping Ukraine. Canada has pledged an additional 200 million euros, and the Netherlands announced Monday a commitment of up to 250 million euros.

“The peace talks are underway, that’s a good thing, but, at the same time, we need to make sure that while they are going on, and without knowing when they will end, Ukraine is in the strongest possible position to continue the fight,” stated NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The renewed calls for de-escalation come amidst growing skepticism regarding Russia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution. British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper asserted, “President Putin should stop the bluster and bloodshed and be ready to come to the negotiating table to support a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.”

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys echoed this sentiment, arriving in Brussels to declare, “The Russians are absolutely not interested in either a ceasefire or a peace agreement,” and urging continued support for Ukraine from NATO allies.

France, currently not participating in the PURL program, faces increasing pressure from partners like Germany and the Netherlands to increase its contribution to Ukraine’s military support. The new aid package aims to provide Ukraine with critical resources as it continues to defend against ongoing Russian aggression.
