Houston – A 50-year-old man is in jail after allegedly choking a Houston police department K-9 to the point of unconsciousness while refusing to comply with officers attempting to remove him from an occupied apartment. The incident underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement K-9s and highlights a pattern of violence against them in the Houston area.
Talmadge Blount was discovered inside the apartment after police responded to a call. When officers instructed Blount to leave, he refused, leading to the deployment of a K-9 unit. According to court records,Blount then choked the K-9,rendering it unconscious. Officers used a taser to subdue Blount and stop the attack. The K-9 is expected to fully recover.
Blount has been charged with interference with a police service animal and is being held on a $40,000 bond. He has a history of prior convictions, including assault of a public servant, terroristic threat against a public servant, and attempted assault of a peace officer.
This incident follows a similar case earlier this year where a K-9 named Rocky was shot in the face by a suspect evading U.S.Marshals. Rocky also recovered from his injuries.
KPRC 2 continues to gather more details about the incident involving Blount and the K-9.
