Google too Seamlessly Integrate AI Chat Directly into Search results
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – December 2, 2025 – Google is testing a new feature that will allow users to move directly from AI Overviews into a conversational AI mode within the standard search results page on mobile devices, globally. Currently, users seeking a more in-depth, conversational experience with Google’s AI must navigate to a separate “AI Mode” tab.
The test, announced Monday by Google VP of Product for Search Robby Stein on X (formerly Twitter), aims to streamline the facts-seeking process. “You shouldn’t have to think about where or how to ask your question,” Stein wrote. Users will continue to receive an AI Overview as a starting point, then be able to ask follow-up questions conversationally from the same screen.
According to Stein, the goal is to enable users to “just ask whatever’s on your mind – no matter how long or complex – and find exactly what you need.”
The rollout coincides with increased focus on AI advancement at competitor OpenAI, which is reportedly delaying other product releases to prioritize improvements to its chatbot experience. Google’s Gemini has seen significant growth, reaching over 650 million monthly users as of November, boosted by releases like the gemini Nano Banana image model and other Gemini improvements. AI Overviews currently boasts 2 billion monthly users, and merging this user base with AI Mode could further expand Gemini’s reach.
