AI Shin Hae-cheol to Feature in ‘Ghost Station: The Next’ Music Initiative
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – April 6, 2024 – A new season of the music program ‘Ghost Station,’ titled ‘Ghost Station: The Next,’ will utilize AI technology to recreate the voice of the late singer-songwriter Shin Hae-cheol, and premiered on YouTube on April 14th. the production team collaborated with SBS, the original broadcaster of ‘Ghost Station,’ to bring the project to fruition.
‘Ghost Station: The Next’ aims to champion emerging musicians struggling for visibility on mainstream platforms, a cause deeply important to Shin Hae-cheol during his lifetime. The program will not only introduce these artists but also provide support programs designed to foster diversity within the South Korean music ecosystem. This initiative arrives as the K-Pop industry faces ongoing scrutiny regarding its limited representation of independent and choice artists.
Producers emphasized their commitment to respectfully honoring Shin Hae-cheol’s legacy, stating they produced the program ”based on the principle of not overinterpreting Shin Hae-cheol’s legacy or distorting it politically or socially.” Shin Hae-cheol, a pivotal figure in Korean rock music known for his socially conscious lyrics and innovative sound, passed away in 1991, leaving behind a significant cultural impact.
