Two Dead, Negligent Homicide Investigation Launched After Munich Crash
Munich, Germany – A traffic collision in Munich’s Milbertshofen district on Saturday evening resulted in the deaths of two men, ages 21 and 48, and has prompted a negligent homicide investigation by the public prosecutor’s office. Authorities say the investigation could be expanded to include more serious charges, such as manslaughter or murder,as details emerge.
the accident occured shortly after 8 p.m. on Schleißheimer Straße when a Porsche Macan, driven by a 19-year-old man from Munich, collided with a Renault Mégane. A 19-year-old woman was a passenger in the Porsche, while the Renault contained a 27-year-old man from Augsburg and his two passengers, the two men who later succumbed to their injuries.
Police report the Renault driver was attempting a left turn onto Max-Diamand-Straße with a green turning arrow when the collision occurred. The Porsche, according to police, ran a red light at a “considerably excessive speed.”
The impact was severe. The Renault sustained catastrophic damage and was declared a total loss. The Porsche rolled over multiple times, coming to rest on its roof and suffering significant damage.
While all occupants except the Porsche driver sustained injuries, the two Renault passengers died from their injuries in hospital Saturday evening. The 19-year-old Porsche driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol. His driver’s license has been confiscated.
Authorities confirm the driver is known to police, particularly in connection with prior violent crimes. The Porsche Macan is registered to a family member. Both vehicles have been impounded as evidence.
An accident analysis report has been commissioned, but results are expected to take several months. As of Monday, the public prosecutor’s office stated there are no current plans to seek an arrest warrant for the 19-year-old driver.
