Law Enforcement Agencies Crack Down on Impaired Driving, Resulting in 49 Arrests
RENO, Nev. – A coordinated DUI enforcement effort across Nevada and California on Saturday evening, November 29th, led to the arrest of 49 individuals suspected of driving under the influence, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).
The initiative, a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, saw officers conduct 818 traffic stops and issue 414 citations. Of the 49 arrests made, 38 were specifically for DUI.
Participating agencies included the NHP, boulder city Police Department, Story County Sheriff’s Office, North Las Vegas police department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Las Vegas metro Police Department, Henderson Police Department, Clark County School District Police, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol.
This year’s blitz marked the second annual event dedicated to the memory of NHP Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, who were tragically killed by a drunk driver while on duty in Las Vegas on November 30, 2023.
“Their legacy lives on through the continued commitment of the men and women who serve our communities every day,and their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” stated the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post.The collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to removing impaired drivers from the roads and preventing future tragedies.
