Judi Love Announces Tour Dates, Reflects on Balancing Success wiht Mental Health
LONDON – Comedian Judi Love is embarking on a UK tour, All About teh love, beginning February 12th in Basingstoke and culminating with a performance at the Eventim apollo in London on June 19th. The announcement comes as Love opens up about the pressures of newfound fame and her commitment to addressing the damaging stereotypes surrounding “strong Black women.”
Love’s rise from social worker to celebrated entertainer has provided a platform to explore themes of identity, motherhood, and mental wellbeing, topics central to her comedy. She describes her show as a candid exploration of the conflicting demands placed upon her – as a mother, performer, public figure, and trailblazer - and the desire to dismantle expectations. this tour arrives at a pivotal moment,as conversations around representation and mental health within the Black community gain increasing prominence.
The comedian recently shared her personal connection to the topic, revealing she wrote her master’s dissertation on the impact of “strong Black woman” stereotypes on emotional and mental health, observing the pattern within her own family. “That was my mum and my family. They’d been through so much: emotional abuse, physical abuse, working five jobs. This narrative, I realised, is killing us,” she explained. Love acknowledges the ongoing challenge of avoiding internalizing this trope, stating, “I see it happening: working hard, supporting others, not always looking after myself.”
Despite her success, Love intends to return to her roots in mental health care, planning to pursue a PhD in psychotherapy. “I’m going to do my PhD in psychotherapy. I don’t know if it’ll be weird, someone coming to my little office in the back and realising their therapist is Dr Judi Love,” she joked, noting a sofa is already set up for future clients.
Love embraces the freedom afforded by her position as a 45-year-old woman in 2025. “I can go and study my PhD, I can sell out the palladium; I can have another baby, get married, or go out and be a massive hoe. I can do what my mum, aunties and grandmas couldn’t. I’ll never let that go.”
