Kyiv sustained further attacks as a Ukrainian delegation prepares for meetings in Washington on Sunday with key figures linked to Donald Trump, including Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. The meetings come amid heightened concern over a recently proposed peace plan presented by Trump, which has drawn criticism for appearing to align with Kremlin interests.
The planned negotiations occur as Ukraine urgently seeks bolstered air defense capabilities and increased pressure on russia following a new wave of deadly strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for swift action, calling on Europe to consider utilizing frozen Russian assets if Moscow continues its attacks. Ten days prior, Trump unveiled a 28-point plan intended to end the nearly four-year-long Russian invasion, but its perceived alignment with Russian objectives has fueled mistrust.
Zelenskyy stated Saturday,”We must work without wasting a single day to ensure that there are enough missiles for our air defense systems, and that everything necessary for our protection and to put pressure on Russia is in place. It is time for Europe to make a decision on frozen assets if Moscow refuses to end its drone and missile strikes.”
