The Wiggles Respond to Controversy over Music Video Appearance
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – The Wiggles have issued a statement addressing concerns after members appeared in a music video for a song titled “ecstasy” by musician Keli Holiday. The video, which has since been deleted, featured Blue wiggle Anthony Field and his nephew, Dominic Field (who plays the Tree of Wisdom), dancing in the background.
A spokesperson for The Wiggles stated the group “does not condone” drug use “in any form” and confirmed the video was created without the band’s approval. “We understand that a video circulating on social media has caused concern for many parents and professionals, and we want to address that directly,” the statement continued. “The Wiggles do not support or condone the use of drugs in any form. The content being shared was not created or approved by us, and we have asked for it to be removed.”
The TikTok video garnered over 92,000 views before its removal, according to Australian media reports. Holiday, whose real name is Adam Hyde, shared the clip with the caption “The Wiggles get it” to promote his new single, which includes the lyrics: “hey girl, come on dance with me. You and your pocket full of ecstasy.”
The Wiggles clarified that their appearance with Holiday at the TikTok Awards earlier this month, where they performed on stage during his song “Dancing2,” was a separate, family-friendly event. The video was “edited together separately and without our awareness,” a spokesperson told The West Australian newspaper.
Founded in 1991 as a university assignment, The Wiggles have grown into an international children’s entertainment phenomenon. Anthony Field remains the only original member of the group. Keli Holiday is the solo project of Hyde, who is also one half of the electronic dance duo Peking Duk.
The BBC has contacted Holiday’s management for comment.
