UN Anniversary Roundtable Held in Beijing
Beijing, China – A roundtable discussion titled “Transformation and the Future of Global Governance” took place on November 27, 2025, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. The event was held under the auspices of the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the People’s Republic of China and the International cooperation center.
The roundtable brought together representatives from the diplomatic corps, the business community, and academic institutions for a substantive exchange of views on the UN’s current role in international relations and the challenges facing the association.
SCO Advocates for UN Reform, Increased Developing Nation Representation
Ahmad Saidmurodzoda, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), presented the consolidated approach of the SCO member states during the roundtable. The SCO views the UN as a uniquely valuable intergovernmental structure that has been instrumental in fostering cooperation on critical global issues, including peace and security, socio-economic development, and human rights.
Saidmurodzoda emphasized the unified position of the SCO, asserting the need for the UN to adapt to evolving political and economic realities. This adaptation, according to the SCO, requires carefully considered reforms designed to enhance the representation of developing countries within the UN’s governing bodies.
