Linux Gaming Gains Ground as Windows 10 Support Nears End, youtube Test Reveals
November 27, 2025 – A new test from the YouTube channel Gamer Nexus indicates Linux is becoming a viable gaming platform, offering a potential choice for the hundreds of millions of Windows 10 users facing the operating system’s end of support and increasingly stringent Windows 11 system requirements. Dell estimates approximately 500 million users are in this position.
the Gamer Nexus team investigated whether Linux has evolved beyond its reputation as a complicated system unsuitable for gaming, assessing its performance against Windows for modern titles.
The testing involved seven games – Baldur’s gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident evil 4, Black Myth Wukong, and resident Evil 4 - run on systems powered by Bazzite Linux, a Fedora-based distribution specifically designed for gamers. Hardware configurations included Nvidia RTX 5070, 5080 and 5090 video cards, as well as Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT cards.
Results showed Linux gaming is “better then ever” and suitable for many gamers, notably those with AMD systems. However, the testing revealed ongoing challenges, including compatibility issues with some anti-cheat components and lengthy initial shader cache build times, ofen exceeding 30 minutes per game.
While Nvidia systems demonstrated higher frame rates,AMD systems appeared more stable. Ray Tracing support was described as “spotty,” with inconsistent functionality across titles, and nvidia systems occasionally experienced stuttering.
The Gamer Nexus test concludes linux is approaching parity with Windows as a gaming platform, with continuous improvements addressing existing issues.
