Stricter Driving Tests Threaten ⁢License Renewals for Seniors in Colombia

Bogotá, ⁣Colombia -⁢ Drivers over teh age of 65 in Colombia face ⁣increasingly stringent requirements to renew their‍ licenses, possibly losing their driving privileges if they fail a new, complete assessment ⁣of physical, mental, and⁤ motor coordination fitness. The heightened scrutiny comes as part of a national effort‍ to reduce traffic accidents,‍ bolstered by Ley 2251 of 2022 ‍ and Resolution ‌217 of 2014 from the Ministry of Transportation.

The exam isn’t new, ‍but its application and level of rigor have been substantially strengthened. These regulations aim to determine ⁤a driverS suitability to safely operate‍ a vehicle, evaluating capabilities‍ crucial⁣ for maneuvering.Failure to pass the assessment, ⁢administered at authorized Driver Recognition Centers (CRC), will result in license renewal denial, requiring repeat testing until certification is achieved.

The process requires a certificate of aptitude issued by the CRC to be validated within‌ the RUNT database. This impacts all drivers seeking renewal, but particularly those in‍ older age ‌brackets who may face greater challenges with the updated testing protocols. ⁤

“[…] This is how you can complete the process of renewing‌ your driving license for ⁣seniors. The driving pass has⁣ requirements that change depending on the age of ‌the drivers,” reports El Tiempo. ⁢

Drivers are also facing a new requirement to obtain a driving license called CALEs. More details on the⁢ cost of renewal and other procedures for 2025 can ⁢be found here.
