Trump Criticizes Ukraine, Accuses Officials of Lacking Gratitude for U.S. Aid

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Ukrainian officials, alleging they have⁣ shown “no gratitude” for American efforts to help resolve the conflict with Russia. The⁢ accusation, made in a series of all-caps posts on his Truth Social platform, comes as the U.S. continues to⁣ supply weapons to⁢ NATO allies for distribution to Ukraine.

Trump stated he “inherited a war that should never have happened, everyone lost.” He also directed criticism towards European⁤ nations “who continue ⁢to buy oil from Russia” and his predecessor, Joe Biden, accusing ⁣him of inaction at the conflict’s ⁢outset.

The remarks coincide with planned discussions between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and a Ukrainian ‍delegation in ‍Geneva on Sunday, intended ⁤to ‌advance Trump’s proposed plan for Ukraine.

Despite ‍a European‍ embargo on Russian oil products established in 2022, some imports continue. ⁢As of August 2025, the five largest European importers of⁢ Russian fossil fuels collectively paid Russia €979 million. Hungary lead with ‌€416 million in ‌purchases, followed by Slovakia ‌(€276 million),France (€157 million in liquefied natural gas, with a portion reportedly delivered to germany),the Netherlands (€65 million in LNG),and Belgium (€64 million, entirely LNG).

The Druzhba oil pipeline, meaning “friendship” in Russian, remains provisionally exempt from the embargo to allow Central European countries time to secure alternative supply sources. Russia’s share⁣ of European oil imports has ‌decreased from 26% to 3% as the embargo’s implementation.
