Man Rushes Ariana Grande: Australian Man Deported After Singapore Incident

Man Who Rushed Ariana Grande at “Wicked: For Good”⁣ Premiere Deported from Singapore

SINGAPORE – The Australian man who rushed the stage during the Singapore premiere of “Wicked: For Good”‍ last month has been deported ‍from the country, authorities confirmed‍ Monday. Benjamin Wen, 28, was sentenced to nine days in jail for being a public nuisance after the incident, which occurred on the yellow carpet ⁣before the film’s release.

Wen’s actions prompted a visible reaction from Ariana Grande, who was comforted by Cynthia Erivo and others present. The‌ incident highlights growing concerns about ⁤security at high-profile events and the potential‌ for disruptions by individuals seeking attention. Wen, who has a history of disrupting other events, was described by a ⁣judge as “attention seeking” and exhibiting a “pattern of behaviour” suggesting he would repeat‌ such actions.

Wen was arrested hours⁢ after the November 24th incident and charged with being a public nuisance. Singapore District Judge christopher Goh noted the potential ⁢for a harsher penalty⁣ -⁢ up to three months in jail and a $1,500 ‍fine – but ⁤ultimately issued the nine-day sentence.

in ‍court, Wen acknowledged his‌ actions were wrong and ‍pledged‌ not to repeat them. He had previously‌ posted a video on Instagram thanking Grande for “letting [him] jump on the Yellow Carpet.” Authorities have now confirmed his deportation, signaling the conclusion of the legal proceedings in Singapore.

“Wicked: For good” was released in the United States on Friday, November 27th. Grande and Erivo have been closely collaborating during the ⁢film’s ⁢promotional tour, forging a supportive partnership throughout the production, as Erivo ⁤described to “CBS Mornings” in December⁣ 2024. “Before‌ we started shooting, both of us had a conversation about making sure that we would take care of each other,” ⁣Erivo said.”We knew neither‍ of us could really do that alone.”
