BOISE BENCH, Idaho - A Boise man faces a first-degree murder charge following the death of another man at a hotel in the 2500 block of Sunrise Rim Rd. on Monday. Brian Jones, 36, was arrested at the scene and is accused in the death of Abel Garcia Jr.
the case centers on conflicting accounts of the death, with Jones initially suggesting the incident was a suicide. However, statements to police reveal a starkly different narrative, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding Garcia’s death and the legality of assisted suicide in Idaho, where it remains prohibited. The examination is ongoing, and the outcome will likely hinge on establishing intent and the precise sequence of events leading to Garcia’s death.
According to a news release from the Boise Police Department, officers responded to a call at the hotel and immediately took Jones into custody. They discovered Garcia’s body in a separate room. Ada County Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Jones initially told dispatch the death was an assisted suicide. Later, speaking to officers, Jones reportedly stated, “I Fucking killed my friend. He was asking for it. I don’t feel bad.”
An officer’s testimony indicates Garcia may have been held in a chokehold for as long as ten minutes. The investigation continues as authorities work to finalize details and notify Garcia’s family.
