Schwäbisch Gmünd: Elderly Woman Scammed in Phone Fraud

Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany A‍ Lindach ​resident‍ was defrauded of jewelry​ and cash this week by‌ a perpetrator posing⁣ as a medical professional, police​ report.​ Authorities are seeking public⁤ assistance to ⁣identify those involved in ‌the elaborate ⁢telephone scam.

On Wednesday, november ⁣19th,‍ a senior ⁢citizen received a ⁤call around midday from ⁣a⁣ man‍ claiming to be Dr.Werner Schöneberg from the Staufer Clinic​ in ⁤Mutlangen. The caller ‌falsely stated the ⁤woman’s daughter ​had been involved in a fatal traffic accident ‍and⁤ demanded a ‍substantial⁣ deposit to‌ resolve the situation.

Over several hours, the victim was subjected to ‍manipulative‍ tactics and pressure. ⁢ Between approximately 6:50 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., she⁢ handed over jewelry and cash to ⁤two unknown men.

Police describe the suspects as middle-aged men with dark ​hair. The⁣ Waiblingen criminal‌ police‌ are‍ requesting anyone who observed suspicious⁤ activity in the Lindach area on Wednesday ​afternoon​ to contact them at (07361) 5800.

This ⁢incident underscores a growing trend ⁢of telephone fraud targeting vulnerable populations.
