Johannesburg – City Power is requesting residents to reduce their electricity consumption as the network faces significant strain due to heavy rainfall and increased demand. A Level 9 whether warning has been issued for johannesburg, raising the risk of storms and flooding which could disrupt roads and further elevate electricity usage.
“With heavy rains pouring throughout Johannesburg…there is a good chance of storms and flooding…likely to increase electricity usage and increase the demand, placing considerable pressure on our network, possibly leading to overloading trips,” explained City Power spokesperson Isaacs Mangena.
Mangena emphasized public cooperation is crucial to prevent network overloads. While City Power teams are working to address existing issues, response times will likely be slower due to the severe weather. Residents are urged to proactively conserve power to help stabilize the system.
