Tanzania: UN calls for Inquiry After Police Crackdown on Post-Election Protests
Dar es Salaam,Tanzania – November 10,2023 – the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights,Volker Türk,is demanding an investigation into the killings adn other alleged abuses committed during and after Tanzania’s recent elections. Security forces responded to demonstrations with lethal force in several regions, including Zanzibar, resulting in confirmed deaths and numerous arrests. The UN’s intervention underscores growing international pressure on the Tanzanian government to ensure accountability and protect civil liberties.
