Korean Duo Seo ⁣Seung-jae and Kim⁣ Won-ho ‌Claim Kumamoto Masters Title, Match BWF ‌Wins Record

Kumamoto, Japan ​- Seo Seung-jae and kim Won-ho have etched their⁢ names into badminton history, securing victory at the Kumamoto Masters in Japan‌ and tying for the second-most wins in a single season in Badminton World Federation ⁤(BWF) history with 10 titles. This achievement also marks a new high for doubles teams, surpassing previous records.

This season,​ the Korean pair participated in 16 international competitions, amassing a remarkable record of 10 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals. Their 10 wins tie ​them with 2024 Paris ​Olympics mixed doubles gold‍ medalist zheng Shiwei ⁤and Huang Yacong (China, retired ‍in 2022) for the most wins in a single⁣ season as a doubles player. The⁣ overall BWF record for most wins in a single ⁣season, across ⁣both singles and doubles, remains at 11, held by Kento ​Momota⁤ (Japan,⁤ retired) in men’s singles in 2019.

The Kumamoto Masters final​ against Midorikawa and Yamashita proved a hard-fought battle. Despite a strong ‌start, Seo and Kim dropped the‍ first game after facing aggressive smashes from their opponents,⁣ falling behind 14-13 and ultimately losing 20-22. Thay⁣ rebounded strongly in the‍ second game,⁢ taking an early lead and securing a 21-16 victory. The deciding ⁢game saw a grueling⁤ rally,with the Korean duo ultimately prevailing 21-16 after a six-point run,culminating in a celebratory moment with national team coach Park Joo-bong.
