IEEE Elects Wei Li as 2024 President-Elect

NEW YORK The IEEE ‌(institute of ⁢Electrical and Electronics engineers),⁢ the world’s largest technical professional association, today announced the election‌ of Wei Li as its 2024 President-Elect. Li will assume the presidency in January 2025, succeeding⁢ current​ IEEE President Thomas M. Conte.

Li brings a wealth of experiance in technology, entrepreneurship, and dedicated IEEE volunteer leadership to the role.He is⁢ a passionate investor and mentor for startups, frequently speaking at global conferences on entrepreneurship and technology. Notably, a healthcare startup within his portfolio recently launched on the public market ⁢with a valuation exceeding ‌US $3 billion.

His deep involvement with the IEEE Standards Association has been instrumental in advancing global connectivity.Li contributed substantially to the progress of the IEEE⁣ 802.11 standard – commonly known as Wi-fi – which has become foundational to​ modern wireless dialog, impacting industries and communities worldwide. He has also ‌championed the widespread‍ adoption of open-source‍ software, empowering businesses and fostering global collaboration in software development.

Li’s longstanding commitment‍ to IEEE volunteer service includes serving as chair of the IEEE Santa Clara Valley ⁣(California) Section ‍Board of⁢ Governors, chair of⁢ the IEEE Consumer Technology Society’s Santa Clara Valley Chapter, and chair of the IEEE Engineering in medicine and biology Society chapter in California, which grew ​to become‌ the society’s largest chapter under his leadership in 2023.

He ​has been recognized for his contributions with a Section Award from the Santa Clara‍ Valley Section in 2020 for‌ outstanding volunteerism‌ and a Director’s Special Award in​ 2015 for his effective leadership of the largest IEEE section globally and support of IEEE ‌Region 6 initiatives.

Li holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.He credits his IEEE volunteer experience with providing him with a valuable network and expertise that he leverages in guiding startups and innovators.
