Italian Gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli Vows to Fight Through Recovery After ‌Severe Neck Injury

Rhine-Ruhr, ⁤Germany ‍ – Italian artistic gymnast Lorenzo Bonicelli, 23, is facing a ⁢challenging recovery following a neck injury‍ sustained during teh FISU 2025 World University Games‍ qualifying round in ⁤the Rhine-Ruhr region. Bonicelli underwent surgery in Germany after a fall ⁤during a triple-flipping ⁣dismount ⁤off the still rings, and is now‍ sharing ‌a deeply personal message⁤ of resilience as he begins rehabilitation.

in a video released Monday,November ⁣10,bonicelli addressed‍ himself directly,acknowledging the difficulty of the journey ahead. “My dear Lorenzo, what can I say: the journey is long and difficult, and⁢ you know it. Many times you will ‍want to ​give up, even for ⁢many days in a row, you ‍will want to let yourself ‌go with the flow, with the difficulties ⁣of life, because it will be‍ the easiest thing to do,” he stated. “However, I​ know that you will also be very afraid of this ease of giving up, ‌it is⁢ such a simple thing, but what will ​frighten you will be the doubt of how deep this dark pit can be, from which ⁢it ⁢will probably be ‌even more impossible to get out.”

Following initial⁢ treatment in Germany,Bonicelli was ‍transferred to a hospital in Milan,Italy,where he ⁢has regained the ability to communicate and eat independently.He is currently supported by his family and girlfriend, Lisa Rigamonti, a former gymnast who is now working as a nurse.
