VR Stargazing App ‘Constellations: Touch the Stars’ Launches in Early Access This December
A new virtual reality experience offering a unique “connect the dots” approach to learning constellations is set to arrive on Meta Quest 3 and 3S in early access this December. Constellations: Touch the Stars, developed by Parietal Lab, allows users to trace and complete all 88 constellations officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
Developed by Grant Hinkson, the app builds upon the “connect the dots” engine used in Parietal Lab’s earlier release, Connectome. Constellations: Touch the Stars aims to make astronomy accessible and engaging through immersive environments and intuitive hand tracking, utilizing a thumb tap motion to bring constellations into focus. The app dynamically adjusts the visible sky based on the user’s location.
Beyond the core constellation-tracing experience,Parietal Lab plans a series of updates following launch. These include a mixed reality mode that overlays constellations onto the real-world sky, displaying names and data, as well as a ‘lie-back’ mode for pleasant stargazing and social features allowing users to stargaze with friends. Players can also look forward to the ability to create custom constellation patterns.
Constellations: Touch the Stars will be available in early access on the Meta Quest 3/3S in the first half of December. Interested users can gain access to pre-early access builds by joining the official discord server: https://discord.gg/3ay2f9k4NV.
