DUBAI/MIAMI – Former NFL‍ wide receiver Antonio Brown has been arrested in​ Dubai adn‌ is awaiting extradition to Miami on charges of attempted second-degree murder, stemming from a shooting following a boxing match in May.The arrest was confirmed by Miami-Dade Police spokesperson, Detective Yuliana Vega.Brown was flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is​ currently ‌being held pending extradition.

The arrest ​marks the latest legal trouble ⁤for the 12-year NFL veteran, whose​ career ended in‌ dramatic fashion in 2021. The incident underscores a pattern of legal issues that have plagued Brown ⁣in recent years,overshadowing his accomplishments on the field.

According to an arrest warrant, the shooting occurred ​on May 16th after Brown ⁢allegedly⁢ grabbed a handgun from a security staffer following a boxing match and fired two shots at⁣ a man with whom he had earlier engaged in a fistfight. The victim, Zul-qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators one ⁣bullet grazed his neck.

Authorities have not yet ​released details ⁢regarding ‌why Brown was initially taken to New Jersey or how long he⁣ had been in Dubai, though ⁤he had posted on social media from the city in recent months. It remains unclear ‍whether Brown has‌ retained legal counsel, and⁢ the timeline for⁤ his‌ return to Miami is currently⁣ unknown.

A conviction on⁢ the attempted second-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 ​years ‍in prison and a fine of up to ⁣$10,000.

Brown, ​an All-Pro wide receiver, played the majority of his NFL career with the pittsburgh Steelers before finishing with the Tampa Bay⁤ Buccaneers. Over his career,he recorded 928 receptions for over 12,000 ⁢yards and 83 touchdowns.

Prior to this ​arrest, brown faced accusations of battery against a moving ⁤truck driver, multiple domestic violence charges,⁢ and failure to pay child support. He gained notoriety in January 2021⁣ when he abruptly left the field during a ⁢game between the ⁣Tampa Bay buccaneers and the New York Jets, removing his jersey ‍and equipment, an act that led to his release from the team and effectively ended his NFL career.
