Billtrust Integrates Agentic AI to Optimize Collections Strategies
NEW YORK – November 6, 2025 – Billtrust has expanded its Collections solution with the addition of agentic AI capabilities, designed to recommend optimal strategies for accounts receivable teams. The new features, announced in July, encompass AI-powered email, dispute management, credit review, and collections analytics, marking a critically important step toward automating and enhancing the collections process.
This move comes as adoption of agentic AI within finance departments accelerates. A recent PYMNTS Intelligence report, “How Agentic AI Went From Zero to CFO Test Runs in 90 Days,” revealed that nearly 7% of U.S. enterprise chief financial officers have already deployed agentic AI in live finance workflows, with an additional 5% currently running pilot programs. Businesses realizing positive returns on investment from generative AI are demonstrating the fastest adoption rates of its agentic applications.
“We’re delivering the future of collections – intelligent, automated and customer-centric,” said Billtrust CEO Sunil Rajasekar in a press release. The company is taking an incremental approach to AI integration, focusing on automating manual tasks before moving toward a ”human-on-the-loop” model that prioritizes visibility and control.
According to Billtrust Vice President of Product Dave ruda, the strategy isn’t about replacing human workers. “You can’t AI everything,” Ruda told PYMNTS in an August interview. “It’s more, ‘where do we see the most amount of human-in-the-loop manual effort, and how can we make that robotic’ – then eventually move to human-on-the-loop, which requires visibility.”
The integration of agentic AI aims to empower accounts receivable teams to work more efficiently and strategically, ultimately improving cash flow and reducing Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
