Xpeng Unveils Humanoid Robot with Advanced Capabilities, Targeting 2026 Launch
Guangzhou, China – Electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng today debuted it’s latest humanoid robot, dubbed IRON, featuring synthetic skin, customizable body options, and a projected release date of 2026. The robot boasts advanced technologies previously integrated into Xpeng’s vehicle line, signaling the company’s expansion into the robotics sector.
while numerous companies are developing humanoid robots, Xpeng’s offering distinguishes itself with a focus on practical application and safety protocols. The IRON robot incorporates 2250 TOPS of computing power and leverages Xpeng’s VLT, VLA, and VLM technologies for improved locomotion and environmental awareness.A newly designed hand with 22 degrees of freedom allows for delicate manipulation of objects. This advancement arrives as the robotics industry seeks to move beyond conceptual demonstrations toward viable, real-world solutions, impacting fields from manufacturing and logistics to elder care and domestic assistance.
Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng stated the robot will adhere to Isaac Asimov’s three laws of robotics, supplemented by a fourth law ensuring user data privacy. The company showcased the robot’s capabilities in a presentation, including a choreographed dance to Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of the Ophelia,” though observers noted the robot’s gait remains somewhat unnatural.
The introduction of customizable body options, including a female variation, has prompted questions regarding necessity and pricing, which Xpeng has yet to disclose. Development will continue over the next two years, with further details expected as the 2026 launch approaches. The success of IRON will depend on addressing these outstanding questions and demonstrating a clear market need for this advanced robotic technology.
