Nintendo Switch 2 Delivers Massive Performance Leap, Challenging Console Giants
PARIS – Nintendo’s newly released Switch 2 is rapidly gaining traction, fueled by notable hardware upgrades that position it as a formidable competitor in the gaming market. The console represents a ample evolution from the original Switch and Switch OLED models, boasting a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen with a 1080p resolution and a refresh rate up to 120Hz – a marked improvement over the 7-inch 720p screen found on the Switch OLED. The Switch 2 also integrates HDR for enhanced contrast and color.
Internally, the switch 2 features an NVIDIA Tegra T239 chip, based on the Ampere architecture, with an 8-core CPU and a GPU capable of up to 3.07 TFLOPs in docked mode. This represents a 6 to 8 times increase in processing power compared to the classic Switch and OLED versions, enabling graphics comparable to those seen on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and supporting technologies like ray tracing and DLSS.
Battery life has also been substantially improved, with a 5220 mAh battery offering up to 9 hours of moderate use, exceeding the 4.5 to 6.5 hours offered by previous Switch models. Connectivity has been upgraded with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.x,and two USB-C ports allowing for simultaneous play and charging. Refinements to the Joy-Con controllers include magnetic fixation and an integrated mouse function.
