Newly resurfaced accounts paint a starkly different picture of Sean Connery than the suave, sophisticated secret agent he portrayed on screen, alleging a pattern of abusive behavior toward his first wife, Diane Cilento. While celebrated for his iconic role as James Bond and a career spanning decades, Connery’s personal life was reportedly marred by volatility and, according to Cilento, physical violence.
The revelation comes as Connery’s legacy is re-examined, years after his death in 2020 at age 90. His estate, valued at approximately $170 million, was entirely donated to charity following his passing. However, the charitable act doesn’t erase the disturbing claims made by Cilento, who detailed years of alleged abuse in her 1993 autobiography, My Life with James Bond. Cilento, a successful actress in her own right, married Connery in 1962 and divorced him in 1973.
