Brockton, MA - A Brockton man was sentenced to state prison today following his conviction on charges stemming from the rape of a 14-year-old girl, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced. The sentencing concludes a case that has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of sexual assault and the pursuit of justice for young victims.
The defendant, Ricardo Alves, 33, was sentenced to seven to ten years in state prison by Judge Thomas A. Russo in plymouth Superior Court. Alves was found guilty by a jury in November 2023 of rape, assault and battery on a child with intent to commit a sexual offense, and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. The incident occurred in Brockton in February 2022.
“This sentence sends a clear message that we will relentlessly pursue and hold accountable those who prey on children,” District Attorney Cruz stated. ”Our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community remains unwavering.”
The investigation was conducted by the Brockton Police Department,with assistance from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office’s Special Victims Unit. Prosecutors presented evidence during the trial demonstrating Alves’s predatory behavior and the notable trauma inflicted upon the victim.
Following the sentencing, the victim’s family expressed gratitude to law enforcement and the prosecution team for their dedication to the case.
