2025 Mountain West Cross Country Championship Central
FRESNO, calif. – The 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will take place this Friday, Oct. 31, at Woodward Park in Fresno, California. The event will crown individual and team champions from across the conference.
New Mexico’s men’s and women’s cross country teams are favored too defend their 2024 titles. The Lobos are aiming for consecutive championships, a feat the program last achieved in 2014. Both New Mexico squads have consistently ranked among the nation’s elite, with the men currently at No. 3 and the women at No. 9 in the U.S. track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings.
New Mexico’s men’s team seeks their 18th overall Mountain West title and a third consecutive championship. Junior Habtom Samuel will compete for a historic third individual championship, having won in both 2023 and 2024. A Lobo man hadn’t won the individual title since 2012 before Samuel’s 2023 victory.
air Force, ranked No. 23 nationally, joins New Mexico as the only Mountain West men’s teams currently in the national top 25.
The New Mexico women are looking for their 17th overall conference championship and a second straight title after Colorado State ended their 15-year championship streak in 2023.They enter the championships ranked No. 9 after beginning the season at No. 5.
Sophomore Pamela Kosgei, who became the first freshman to win the women’s title since 2015 in 2024, will attempt to become the fourth woman in Mountain West history to win back-to-back individual championships.
the men’s 8k race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT, followed by the women’s 6k race at 9:45 a.m. PT. both races will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
